ISPON LogoThe Annual President’s Dinner of the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON). will hold on Friday, 25th February, 2011 at the Annex Exployere Restaurant of Federal Palace Hotel (NEW WING).

The Chairman of the Occasion is: His Excellency Liyel Imoke the Executive Governor of Cross River State, whose passion for Software Engineering Development and Promotion is unparallel amongst the current State Governors in Nigeria today.

The Theme for the event is: “National Software Policy – Imperatives for Venture Capital and Incentives for the Developer Community”.

The Keynote Speaker for the occasion is, Dr. Phillips Oduoza – a distinguished scholar and Group Managing Director of the United Bank for Africa (UBA).

The President’s Dinner offers an executive forum for key stakeholders in the software ecosystem—developers, consumers, regulators, policy-makers, related professionals, and other interest groups—to interact and feedback on issues impacting the articulation of this key, albeit nascent, economic sector.

According to the President of the Institute, Chris Uwaje, he said,ISPON has been consistent in stating that the hope for national development lies first in engaging the challenges posed by the emerging economy of the knowledge society. Our focus is on promoting awareness on the imperative for developing Nigeria’s indigenous software development potential and innovative capacity as a national priority.

It is hoped that by exposing the issues, establishing the strategic relevance of the sub-sector in meeting the challenge of national growth and prosperity; and providing a continuous platform for interaction and articulation of industry’s needs amongst a diverse target audience, a specific momentum can be built to create an enabling environment for the growth of the sub-sector.

Accordingly, in 2009 the Dinner hosted dignitaries of relevance and prominence with Engr. E.C. Ndukwe, former Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, ably supported by the Prof. Cleopas Angaye, Director-General, Nigeria Information Technology Development Agency and members of the Board, Chief Sam Amuka – Publisher, Vanguard Media, and the ICT Professional community in attendance.

This year, in addition to the foregoing, the Honourable Ministers for Education, National Planning, the Honourable Ministers for Information and Communications and the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, the EVC Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Phillips Oduoza (GMD of UBA) as Guest Speaker, Jim Ovia – Founder Visa Phone, Director General NOTAP, ATCON President, Engr. Titi Omo Ettu amongst others.

This event is strictly by invitation for distinguished CEOs, and Captains of Industry.
