West African Information and Communications Technology Congress (WAFICT 2013) Holds on 7-8 November,Lagos

West Africa’s growth continues to soar, flying on the wings of the telecommunications industry, which has been acknowledged as the fastest growing in the world.

BUT, wait a minute! Who are the companies that have made this transformational development possible? Under what legal and regulatory framework as well as environmental situation have such companies and the telecom sector waded through, to achieve this quantum leap? Is West Africa really such an easy environment to do business, especially in the telecom sector?

How have the regulators been instrumental in ensuring telcos that opt to invest in West Africa get support and value for their investments? What policies and laws have governments in the region put in place to support and encourage investment in, and expansion of the telecom industry? Could the governments have done more? Have they done enough? Could the regulators have been better partners in progress with operators than they have been?

Are there still environmental and social factors that prevent operators from bringing the ultimate digital dividends to West African citizens? What must the governments do; what have they left undone? What must the regulators do; what have they left undone? How can the telcos, investors and operators be further encouraged to deepen and sustain their commitments in the telecom sector in West Africa?

These and many more, are the salient topics and issues that will occupy the focal points of discussions at the 2013 West African ICT Congress, with the theme: Bringing Digital Dividends To West Africa: Tackling The Challenges Posed By Legal And Regulatory Frameworks

Now, here’s your company’s unique opportunity to be a part of history! The 5th WAFICT Congress, incorporating conference, exhibition and Awards, holds at the ultra-modern New Eko Expo Hall, Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. Running November 7 & 8, WAFICT Congress 2013 is a grand platform to hear from Governments and Regulators in West Africa their policies, plans and strategies towards encouraging operators to bring digital dividends to West Africa.

While governments and regulators cannot become telecom operators, they possess through legal and regulatory frameworks, the power, direction and ability to influence the application and implementation of telecom operations that will bring digital dividends to their citizens. The operators stand ready always to follow the direction of legal and regulatory frameworks. How West Africa can achieve this, is the central focus of this year’s conference.
